Prasinite

The European geological and petrogaphic literature employs certain term that have no founf elsewhere. In French, German and Italian literature, for exemple, the petrographic term "Prasinite" is commonly udes when dealing with the ophiolite, or to be more precise, their metamorphic products.

The meaning of the term Prasinite is generally agreed: it is a basaltic matamorphic rock usually consisting of ocellar albite, surrounded by a green matrix composed of almost equal amounts of actinolite, chlorite and epidote.
The term come from the greek word prásinos (green leek )in allusion to the green color of the rock.
