Kornerupine- (Mg,Fe²⁺,Al)₁₀(Si,Al,B)₅O₂₁(OH,F)

Kornerupine is a rare mineral named in honor of Andreas Nikolaus Kornerup (1857-1881), a Danish naturalist, artist and explorer. Kornerupine was first described in 1884 for an occurrence in Fiskernaes in SW Greenland. It occurs in boron-rich volcanic and sedimentary rocks which have undergone high grade metamorphism. It is also found in metamorphosed anorthosite complexes.

Optical Properties:
• Form: From massive-fibrous to prismatic (crystals Shaped like slender prisms).
• Color: Colorless.
• Pleochroism: Colorless to pale green.
• Relief: Moderate.
• Interference colors: Low, I order gray-yellow.
