Haüynophire

Hauynophyre: A volcanic rock name equivalent to leucitophyre or nephelinite for rocks that are rich in haüyne and nosean. The matrix may contain glass, pyroxene, haüyne and other foids.

The hauynophyre emitted from a parasitic vent of the Vulture stratovolcano is a S- and Cl-rich, leucite-melilite-bearing lava flow containing an unusually large amount of sodalite-group minerals (>23 vol.%). Melfi hauynophyre (locality n.1 in fig.1) is a holocrystalline rock with phenocrysts of hauyne, zoned salitic to ferrosalitic clinopyroxene, subordinate leucite and apatite in a groundmass made up of the same phases plus nepheline, Na+Fe-rich melilite and magnetite.
